Manufacturing development

From discarded textile
to useful material.

AKAY Designs is developing a controlled pathway for recovering textiles, understanding their composition, and evaluating how prepared fibers may be formed into new material formats for future performance applications.

Proposed pilot pathway

Five stages. Measured before scaled.

01

Source

Begin with qualified corporate surplus and documented textile feedstock.

02

Sort

Separate by fiber type, construction, color, condition, and intended trial.

03

Prepare

Clean, remove hardware, reduce size, and prepare fibers under controlled conditions.

04

Form

Evaluate appropriate binding and forming methods for repeatable material output.

05

Test

Measure consistency, safety, durability, and application-specific performance.

06

Match

Identify appropriate uses only after documented testing and partner review.

Development priorities

What the pilot must answer.

Feedstock consistency

Which textile streams can be sorted and prepared reliably?

Processing requirements

Which equipment, temperatures, binders, and controls are appropriate?

Material performance

Which measurements determine whether an output is suitable for further development?

Environmental accounting

How will energy, water, waste, and material diversion be documented?

Current stage: concept development and pilot planning.

Specific processing claims, performance specifications, certifications, and commercial applications will be published only after appropriate trials and documentation.
